An Introduction to Dreamcatcher! (Part 1 – Members)

Hello, people! This is an introduction to the Kpop group Dreamcatcher. I love them and their music a lot, so I decided to do a series similar to my Introduction to Loona series. They are a fantastic and severely underrated group, and I hope this will make at least one person more interested in them! This guide will only have two parts since Dreamcatcher does not have any sub-units but in the first part (this one!) I will talk about the individual members and in the other part I will talk about their work as a group.

 

Basics:

Dreamcatcher is a 7-member group under Dreamcatcher Company (formerly Happyface Entertainment). Their official fandom name is InSomnia (meaning In Dreams in Latin, not named after the inability to sleep). They are known for their stand-out rock sound, which is uncommon among Kpop girl groups, and their difficult dances.

JiU

JiU is the leader of Dreamcatcher. Her real name is Kim Minji. She is a lead vocalist and a lead dancer, and she is a fan of Jpop group Baby Metal (which is fitting because many people think that Dreamcatcher’s songs sound like anime intros). She is one of the 6 Korean members and she is the second oldest member. She was also a member of MINX (the group that disbanded and reformed with 2 new members as Dreamcatcher).

Real Name: Kim Minji

Position: Leader, Lead Vocalist, Lead Dancer

Nationality: Korean

Fun Facts:

1. Her English name is Lily
2. She is the second oldest Dreamcatcher member
3. If she was not an idol she would be a police officer or the owner of a macaron store
4. She has a younger brother
5. She does aerobatics to relieve stress

 

SuA

SuA is the oldest member of Dreamcatcher. She is the main dancer, and she is also a vocalist and has rapped in their songs before. She was in MINX before Dreamcatcher.

Position: Main Dancer, Lead Rapper, Vocalist

Nationality: Korean

Fun Facts:

1. She is the oldest member of Dreamcatcher
2. Her English name is Alice
3. Among the members, she trained the longest
4. She learns dances the fastest and helps her members learn
5. She likes to draw

 

Siyeon

Siyeon is Dreamcatcher’s main vocalist. She is known for her beautiful voice and she has put out covers without the rest of the group. She was a MINX member.

Position: Main Vocalist

Former MINX Member: Yes

1. She has put out solo covers of Alan Walker’s Faded and the Sky Castle (a drama) OST, We All Lie
2. She and SuA are Avengers fans
3. Her English name is Monica
4. She does not like to exercise
5. She plays piano

 

Handong

Handong is Dreamcatcher’s only foreign member. She is also the oldest member who was not in MINX. She is the shyest and quietest member.

Real Name: Han Dong

Position: Vocalist

Nationality: Chinese

Former MINX member: No

Fun Facts:

1. She is the only foreign member of Dreamcatcher
2. Her English name is Della
3. She was in a musical in high school
4. Her professor urged her to audition in Korea
5. She likes to eat chocolate, but she sneezes when she eats it

 

Yoohyeon

Yoohyeon is one of Dreamcatcher’s lead vocalists. In my opinion, her voice adds a lot to their slower songs and ballads. She was also a member of MINX.

1. Her English name is Rachel
2. She can play guitar
3. She is learning Mandarin and German
4. The members agree that she is the most forgetful
5. She is a big fan of Sunmi and once sent her a fan letter

 

Dami

Dami is the main rapper of Dreamcatcher. She was the youngest member of MINX, but in Dreamcatcher Gahyeon is younger than her.

Real name: Lee Yoobin

Position: Main Rapper, Lead Dancer, Vocalist

Nationality: Korean

Former MINX Member: Yes

1. She wishes she had a pet bear
2. She loves to read
3. Her English name is Emma
4. She was the youngest member of MINX, even though she is not the youngest member of Dreamcatcher
5. Her favorite author is Murakami Haruki

 

Gahyeon

Gahyeon is the youngest member of Dreamcatcher. She has sung in all of Dreamcatcher’s music, but she has only lately started rapping in their most recent title track (she also rapped on an older b-side but Piri is her first rap that a lot of people are seeing). She was not a MINX, and when she debuted she replaced Dami as the youngest member.

Position: Vocalist, Rapper, Maknae (youngest member)

Nationality: Korean

Former MINX Member: No

Fun Facts:

1. She was an honor student for 3 years
2. Her English name is Lucy
3. She is best at Math
4. She is friends with many other idols, like Pristin’s Yehana, Twice’s Dahyun, (G)I-dle’s Miyeon, and Momoland’s Jane
5. She can do an impression of Sponge Bob’s laugh
